The Map

How does it all fit together?

Your whole business on one page — every stage, and every number that moves profit.

Amazon businesses are run in fragments: one person watches ads, another watches stock, another closes the books. Everyone is looking at a real number and nobody is looking at how those numbers connect. So when profit moves, the argument about why can run for a week.

What we do about it

  • The whole operating cycle on one page, from deciding what to buy through to knowing what you earned.
  • Each stage names the question it answers and who owns it, so nothing falls between two people.
  • Profit is broken down into what actually moves it — price, units, fees, unit costs — down to the level someone can act on, with each lever marked as one you control, one you influence, or one you can only watch.
  • Nothing is filled in with a plausible number: a lever we do not track says so, and every part of the map opens the page holding the real figures.
The operating cycle, stage by stage, with what each stage owns.

A real moment

Profit is down four points and the meeting has three theories: prices, advertising, and "Amazon put the fees up again". On the map it takes one pass to see that price held, that ad cost per sale held, and that fulfilment cost per unit moved — one product's packaging had crossed a size threshold. The theory that survives is the one nobody in the room had.

A composite scenario, drawn from patterns we see repeatedly — not a named customer's result.
